From what I've heard there are quite a few people on the board that have relatives that own these businesses and broken down homes. I don't care who owns them. Fine them! Make them clean up their properties. Have some respect for our town! If you want your home value to grow, then step up and do the right thing. It's ridiculous we have downtown lights going constantly, and we have cutey decorations hanging from poles, but the buildings are dilapidated and the streets are horrible. Make some better decisions about where the monies go in this town. Fine people for having too many pets! Fine people for dilapidated properties. Use that money to fix our streets. How much money did our city get from the "cares act"? And, what will you do with it? We will be watching closely. Elections are a funny thing. Do your jobs! Protect our city and our livelihoods. Increase home values. Do the right thing!

It seems that city is neglecting its own laws and the homeowners and citizens are taking the blow where it hurts most, in the pocket book.
As per The Raton Code of Ordinances Title Xv; Land Usage, Chapter 151: Building Codes & Regulations states, “that these types of structures fall under defects, which ought to be deemed dangerous buildings.”
This is not being done and property owners are left with dwellings that unfit for habitation and have made areas of Raton vulnerable to criminal activity.
It is the duty of the City to look out for the safety and well being f its citizens and the City of Raton has exhausted all its excuses to make this situation a priority on our shopping list of items that need immediate attention.
I am requesting a citizen run advisory board be implemented to find solutions that are lawful and can be used to correct the problem with vacant or abandon homes in Raton. Thank You.
